Client Stories
What Hong Kong finance leads noticed after a readiness audit, reconciliation dive, or cut-off walkthrough — including the awkward findings.
Voices from recent closes
They caught a deferred revenue cut-off we had argued over for two closes. The memo was blunt about the evidence gap — useful, even if it made the last Thursday uncomfortable.
— Mei L., Group Controller, listed retailer
We asked for a readiness pass on inventory provisions only. They stayed inside that brief and still flagged two intercompany timing items we could fix before board papers went out.
— Daniel K., Finance Director, trading house
The cut-off walkthrough with our warehouse supervisor was shorter than I expected. A few shipping dates still needed better stamps, but we finally had a file the auditors did not reopen three times.
— Priya S., Close Lead, consumer goods
I would have liked them on site earlier in the week; by Wednesday the team was already exhausted. The findings were fair, though — especially the bank reconciling items older than sixty days.
— Adrian W., CFO, logistics SME
Extended story: Q2 readiness at a Kowloon trading company
A mid-sized trading group booked a Quarter-End Readiness Audit three weeks before board papers. Intake showed heavy intercompany stock movements and a new revenue recognition policy still settling into the sub-ledger.
Fieldwork spent two days on cut-off samples and two on AR and inventory reconciliations. The draft memo listed four blockers: missing goods-received evidence on period-end receipts, an accrual for freight without carrier invoices, an intercompany balance that had not been confirmed, and a revenue schedule that still used the prior policy for two contracts.
The debrief with the controller agreed a clearance order for the final five days. Two blockers cleared before lock; the freight accrual and one contract stayed as board disclosures with documented judgement. External auditors later asked fewer follow-ups on cut-off than in the prior quarter.
The client’s mild reservation: they wished the engagement had started a week earlier so clearance work did not collide with board drafting. We now ask every prospect for the true lock date, not only the board date, before we propose timing.
